A Dusty Blue Wedding at The Orchard: Caitlin and Eric's Portrait-Perfect Day
Caitlin and Eric's day at The Orchard was exactly that—the kind where every detail comes together so beautifully that you genuinely have to pause and take it all in. Dusty blue bridesmaid dresses, a groom in a sharp navy suit, lavender already blooming across the property, and Mount Hood standing tall in the background as an un-paid actor. I'm biased, but this one felt like a dream!
What made it even sweeter? I actually met Caitlin and Eric at The Orchard's tasting event months before the wedding—so watching them say their vows at a venue I had already fallen in love with, knowing they had trusted me with their guest portrait experience, was a full circle moment. This was my first official wedding at The Orchard, and honestly will always hold a very special place in my heart.
Here's a look at their day—the details, the guests, the vendors, and everything that made the Bowtie & Brush experience shine at this incredible venue.

About the Author
Danison Fronda-Tietz is the founder of Bowtie & Brush and a live wedding artist based in the Pacific Northwest, serving events across the West Coast and nationwide. He specializes in live watercolor guest portraits in a fashion illustration style—chic and flattering, painted entirely by hand in real time.
He shows up in a coordinated suit and bowtie, paints approximately 20 guests per hour, and treats "easiest vendor in the room" as a personal standard. He also has a former CPA background with Disney accounting experience—because yes, the systems behind the art are just as polished as the portraits themselves.
A Theme That Was Practically Made for This Venue
The Orchard already does so much of the visual heavy lifting on its own. The lavender. The manicured grounds. Mount Hood as the permanent, breathtaking backdrop. So when Caitlin and Eric chose blues as their wedding palette, it was kind of the perfect pairing.
The bridesmaids were in dusty blue—soft and elegant against all that surrounding green. Eric stepped up in a deep navy suit with a beautiful patterned tie that made him look so handsome and stunning. The floral arrangements were gorgeous, pulling lavender tones that worked with the natural landscape of the property. Long family-style tables gave the whole reception a warm and communal feel, and with Mount Hood as the backdrop behind every table, the entire scene looked like it was always made for this exact design.
I showed up in my navy suit and bowtie—because matching the wedding's color story is part of the Bowtie & Brush experience, always. I'm part of the aesthetic on purpose. When you're painting portraits live at a reception, I believe you should fit the room, and I make sure I do every single time.
The Couple's Portrait: Caitlin, Eric, and Mount Hood
The couple's portrait is always the first piece I complete at any event—it's more detailed than the guest portraits, set up as the anchor example that welcomes guests into the experience when they arrive.
For Caitlin and Eric, I painted them with Mount Hood rising behind them and their floral arrangements framing the composition, working in my loose fashion illustration style. Caitlin's gown was pleated with a light and delicate pattern—the kind of detail that gives a portrait real texture without pulling focus from her silhouette. Eric looked incredible in his navy suit with that patterned tie. Together they were polished and romantic, exactly what the portrait needed to be.
Including the venue itself in the couple's portrait—the mountain, the flowers, the setting they chose together—makes the piece specific in a way that a plain background never could. It's a portrait of their wedding day, and every detail in it means something.
Sixty Guests and the Moment It All Clicked
At every event, there's a moment when guests fully understand what's happening. That live watercolor portrait of them—by hand, in real time, in this fashion illustration style—is actually theirs to take home. It takes a little bit. And then it clicks. And then the energy shifts completely.
Caitlin and Eric had a guest count of about 60, and with a four-hour package, we had breathing room that a bigger wedding doesn't always allow. I can paint roughly 20 guests per hour, which meant we had space for duplicates and groupings that guests genuinely wanted. The bridal party came together for a full bridesmaids portrait. All five groomsmen lined up for theirs. The bride and her mother got a portrait together that I think might have been one of the most meaningful pieces of the night.
When guests have time to think about what they actually want—and know they can come back—the experience opens up in a really special way.
One woman in particular came up to me mid-event, lit up from head to toe, and told me the portrait was going to be her new profile picture. She said she looked young and stunning and fashionable, and she could not get over it. That reaction is everything. That's what fashion illustration does—it gives people a version of themselves they feel genuinely proud to show off.
And then an artist in the group found her way to my station and we ended up deep in conversation about media and technique. She wanted to know exactly what I was using, and when we got to the subject of charcoal, we both immediately agreed it was the messiest art supply in existence. Finding a fellow artist at a wedding who gets it is always one of my favorite kinds of conversations!
The Vendors Who Made This Night Exceptional
I will die on the hill that Celilo Catering is the best in the Pacific Northwest. Every single time. The spread at Caitlin and Eric's wedding was—chicken and pork, fresh bread, a salad with feta and bacon and a vinaigrette, rice, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. An absolute chef's kiss from first plate to last. I always look forward to seeing them on a vendor list.
The music was in the hands of Ryan with Gorge Music, who brought a violinist named Matthew—and those two together created exactly the right atmosphere all night. Live strings at a venue like The Orchard, with that setting, is just something else. The bar was excellent. The planning from Love Notes (Kaytlin) was seamless and organized from the moment I arrived. My setup space was ready to go immediately, which means everything about this team is professional and thoughtful. And the florals for teh ceremony and tablescapes were from Trellis Flowers.
The signature drinks were also a highlight—there was a lavender vodka cocktail (very on theme, very much appreciated) and a bourbon drink that my sister absolutely gave her full approval to. I am always a sucker for signature drinks. Always.
And obviously, can we take a moment to always shout out one my my favorite photographers Christina Whittlesey Photography!
Why The Orchard Has My Whole Heart
I was already a fan of this venue before I painted my first portrait here—meeting Caitlin and Eric at the tasting event gave me a preview of how beautifully the team operates and how carefully they curate the whole experience. But actually working a full wedding here confirmed everything I had hoped.
The venue is gorgeous and well-organized. The setting with Mount Hood, the lavender, and the family-style tables created a visual environment that made every portrait feel special just by being painted in it. And the couples who choose The Orchard are exactly the kind of couples who think carefully about every element of their wedding—which means they understand and appreciate what live watercolor portraits are about.
By the end of the night, after saying goodbye to the vendors and the couple, I ended up on the dance floor. Because the playlist was that good and the vibe was that strong, and homeboy cannot resist a great song at the end of a great night. That's the best sign of all—when the vendors are dancing at the last call, it was a really good wedding.
Huge congratulations to Caitlin and Eric. You two are exactly the kind of couple I love working for, and I cannot wait to come back to The Orchard.
FAQ
What packages does Bowtie & Brush offer for live watercolor portraits?
Packages are priced by duration. The four-hour package—which Caitlin and Eric chose—is a great fit for weddings in the 60–80 guest range. It allows time for both individual and group portraits, and often gives guests the chance to request duplicates or different groupings. Full pricing is available here.
Can you paint group portraits, not just individuals?
Yes—groups are some of my favorite pieces to paint. Couples, bridal parties, family combinations—all of it works beautifully in the fashion illustration style. Group portraits are part of the experience at no extra complexity. The max I like to do is 5 per portrait.
Do you coordinate your look with the wedding?
Always. Showing up in a suit that matches the wedding's color palette is a deliberate part of the Bowtie & Brush experience. The artist is part of the aesthetic, and everything at the event should feel cohesive and intentional—including me.
Do you serve weddings at The Orchard and venues in the Columbia River Gorge?
Yes—The Orchard is one of my favorite venues in the region, and I'm always excited to work here. I serve weddings throughout the Pacific Northwest and take destination bookings nationwide. Travel rates are listed on the website. But for The Orchard, it’s a flat rate of $100.
What happens after the wedding?
Every completed portrait gets scanned during and after the event. The day after your wedding, I deliver a custom digital poster featuring all the portraits from the night, designed as a keepsake grid. It's one of those finishing touches that makes the whole experience feel complete—and it's included in every package.
