THE SIGNATURE STYLE
The Fashion Sketch Method
Learn the Bowtie & Brush approach to modern fashion-inspired portrait illustration for artists who want their work to feel elegant, expressive, and refined.
SOUND FAMILIAR?
You've seen watercolor guest portraits. But something about yours isn't clicking.
If your figures feel stiff, your faces end up looking cartoon-y, or the whole thing just doesn't have that elevated fashion-illustration quality you're going forβyou're not alone. And it's probably not a talent problem. It's a method problem.
The Figures Feel Stiff
The poses look copied straight from the reference instead of interpreted. There's no movement, no flowβand the whole portrait ends up feeling rigid instead of elegant.
The Faces Look Cartoon-y
Over-rendered features, heavy linework, faces that read more like caricature than fashion illustration. You know something's offβyou just don't know how to fix it.
It Doesn't Feel Fashion-Forward
You can picture the style you're going forβchic, elongated, elevated. But what you're producing isn't quite there, and it's hard to pinpoint exactly what's missing.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
The Full Curriculum
Twelve modules. Self-paced. Designed to teach you the method from the ground up.
01 Welcome to The Fashion Sketch Method
We're setting the foundation for everything ahead. You'll get a full introduction to The Fashion Sketch Methodβwhat it is, what it's not, who it's for, and what you're going to walk away with by the end of the course. This is where you'll get a sense of the approach and what makes this method feel different from a typical illustration course.
02 Understanding the Style
We're getting into the visual foundation of the Bowtie & Brush styleβwhat actually makes a portrait feel fashion-inspired. Before we start building figures in later modules, we'll cover elongated proportions, dynamic poses, why the 3/4 view works best, and how to start translating reference photos into something that fits this style. This module is all about training your eye.
03 Materials and Setup
We'll walk through the materials and setup used throughout this method. You don't need a massive collection of suppliesβyou just need a setup that feels simple, clean, and easy to work with. We'll cover what each tool is actually doing in the process so you can build a setup that works for you without feeling like you have to buy everything at once.
04 Sketching the Female Figure
The female figure starts to feel simpler and more approachable. We'll walk through how to break down the body, how to approach proportions for this style, how to think about different body types, and how we build toward a confident standing pose. This is the foundational module for figure workβtake your time with it, sketch along, and let the understanding build as you go.
05 Sketching the Male Figure
The male figure starts to feel simpler and more approachable. We're building on the same foundation from Module 4, but now focusing on the shapes, proportions, and posture choices that help masculine figures feel polished, balanced, and fashion-inspired. This is especially important for weddings and events, where you'll often be working with couples and group portraits.
06 Linework and Details
Your sketch starts to gain more clarity, structure, and polish. We'll focus on how linework helps support the figure through shape, proportion, definition, and subtle anatomical detail. You'll learn how to use line intentionally, how to keep the figure from feeling stiff, and how to refine the portrait in a way that still feels soft, stylish, and true to the method.
07 Faces, Hair, and Features
We'll focus on one of the most delicate parts of the portrait process: faces, hair, and the small details that help bring the figure to life. The goal here is not to over-renderβit's to learn how to suggest these areas in a way that still feels polished, flattering, and true to the method. The softer, more minimal choices almost always work best in this style.
08 Clothing and Fashion Details
We're focusing on one of the most important parts of the method: clothing and fashion details. A lot of what makes these portraits feel fashion-inspired isn't just the figureβit's the outfit. The shape of the dress, the drape, the fold of the fabric, the texture. We'll learn how to simplify clothing in a way that still feels stylish, intentional, and true to the person.
09 Watercolor Application
We're getting into colorβand specifically, how watercolor supports the Bowtie & Brush method. We'll cover how traditional watercolor and brush pens work together in this style, why paper choice matters more than you'd think, the simple approach to skin tones, how to render specific fabrics like sequins and leather and plaid, and the layering rules that keep every piece fresh from start to finish.
10 Working from Photos
We're taking everything we've built and applying it to real-life reference photos. Working from a reference is a skill all on its ownβand in this module, we'll focus on how to read a photo quickly, how to adjust proportions from reality into the style, and how to combine multiple references when one isn't enough.
11 Couples and Groups
We're taking everything learned about the individual figure and applying it to couples, groups, and the people who make weddings and events feel complete. We'll cover how to sketch couples in a balanced way, how to simplify group poses, how to handle overlapping bodies and outfits, and how to approach one of the most requested portrait subjectsβchildren and babies.
12 Finishing Strong
This is the final moduleβand it's a closing chapter in every sense of the word. We're going to cover the things that turn a method you've learned into a method you own: building real speed through repetition, knowing how to review your own work, troubleshooting the most common issues, and finallyβhow to keep growing and make this style genuinely yours.
MEET DANISON
The Fashionable Artist Behind The Brush
Hi, I'm Danison β the artist behind Bowtie & Brush. My work centers around modern, fashion-inspired portrait illustration with a soft watercolor feel. Over time, I developed a process for simplifying real people into portraits that feel stylish, expressive, and elevated while still capturing their essence.
The Fashion Sketch Method brings that process into a clear framework so other artists can learn it, practice it, and build on it in a way that feels natural to their own creative voice.

The Fashion Sketch Method FAQs
A few quick answers before you dive in.
What is The Fashion Sketch Method?
The Fashion Sketch Method is a self-paced online course where I teach the watercolor fashion illustration style behind every Bowtie & Brush portrait. It's the same approach I use at live events β elongated, chic, and never cartoony β broken down step by step so you can actually learn it.
The course covers everything from understanding the visual foundation of the style, to sketching figures, adding watercolor, working from reference photos, and eventually drawing couples and groups. Fourteen modules total.
Is this a beginner drawing course?
Not exactly. This course isn't built around general illustration fundamentals β it's built around my specific method. You don't need to be an advanced artist, but some basic drawing experience will help you get more out of it faster.
If you've ever picked up a pencil and sketched before β even casually β you're in the right place. The goal is to help you learn this particular style, not to teach drawing from scratch.
Is this a business course?
No β and that's intentional. The Fashion Sketch Method is entirely focused on the art side of things. We're not talking about pricing, marketing, or how to build a brand.
This course is about the method, the technique, and the visual approach. How to sketch. How to see. How to apply watercolor in a way that feels loose but polished. That's it β and honestly, that's plenty.
When does the course launch?
The Fashion Sketch Method officially launches in November 2026. If you want to be the first to know when it's open β and get any early access details β make sure you're on the list.
What materials do I need?
Not much. The course covers paper, pencil, watercolor and brush pens, and fine liners β and I'll walk you through exactly what I use and why. There's an entire module dedicated to this so you know what actually matters versus what's optional.
You genuinely do not need a massive supply haul to start. A simple, clean setup is all you need β and the course will help you figure out what that looks like for you.
Will I sketch exactly like you by the end?
That's actually not the goal. What I want to give you is a framework β a method that gives you structure and direction while leaving room for your own style, your own preferences, and your own growth as an artist.
Some things will click right away. Others will take practice. But by the end, you should feel more confident sketching figures with elegance and movement, simplifying real people into stylish portraits, and making it completely your own.
